Expertise, Experience, Excellence
About Me
My full-time career in higher education spanned almost 35 years. After over 20 years as a professor and administrator, I went to work for a regional accrediting agency (SACSCOC). As a Vice President, I worked with a portfolio of institutions within the region. That portfolio included institutions of every type and size. Over almost 14 years with SACSCOC, I staffed more than 100 peer review committees. For the last few years with the agency, I served as Senior Vice President, taking on additional responsibilities related to policy development and agency publications. I maintain a particular interest in institutional effectiveness and SACSCOC’s Quality Enhancement Plan.
My academic area is religious studies, and I hold a PhD in New Testament Studies. With additional academic work in narrative and literary criticism, I am particularly interested in the canonical Gospels. I am also an ordained minister and a church musician.
I have been singing my entire life. I have formal training in voice as an undergraduate, and I have been a choir member and soloist in various choirs and locations since high school. I have also discovered a love for various musical instruments in the last few years. I play the hammered dulcimer, the mountain dulcimer, the ukulele, and the electric bass guitar.
I have a broad range of expertise and experience in higher education. I would love to work with your institution on projects related to such things as accreditation, planning and effectiveness, educational program assessment, and curriculum review.
I am available as a soloist (vocal or hammered dulcimer). I would also be happy to discuss presenting special programs for school, church, or community groups.
I am an ordained minister, preacher, teacher, and author. In many ways, my experience as a professor, minister of music, and preacher/teacher nicely intersect. I am comfortable with liturgical worship and preaching from the lectionary.
